We are offering a series of 3 part, hands-on workshops focusing on a variety of techniques & objects.

  • Schedule: 3 classes.  Meets once a week for 2 hours

HAND BUILDING WITH EGYPTIAN PASTE

with Karina Ruth

Mondays 1-3pm  June 16, 23 and 30

Egyptian paste is a colored self glazing ceramic paste. It is known for its bright colors, especially shades of turquoise, blue and green.  Come experience the magic of this 3,000 year old process. The first two sessions will include demonstrations of creating the material, molding shapes, and hands-on bead/ornament making. The third session will be finalizing beads and ornaments.

All levels.

NERIKOMI

with Sam Neary

Tuesdays, 1-3pm, June 10, 17, 24

 

Learn how to create beautiful handbuilt marbled pieces with colored porcelain. Nerikomi is a technique of stacking and cutting colored clays to produce patterns. Sam will cover the whole process from start to finish including coloring your clay, marbling techniques and slab building—and will show you how to use your newly created slabs to make a pot that is truly unique. 

All levels.

COILED VESSELS 

with Lea Cook

Tuesdays, 7-9pm, June 10, 17 and 24 

In this workshop for students of all levels, we will use coiling techniques to create vessels of all shapes and sizes. All tools needed will be provided. Come in with a form idea already brewing or still thinking about what you will make.

All levels. Limited experience with handbuilding is helpful. 

MAKING PITCHERS ON THE POTTERY WHEEL

with Rachel Binderman

Thursdays, 1-3pm, June 12, 19 and 26

Join us for a wheel-throwing workshop focussing on pitchers. Rachel will discuss a range of body shapes, different ways to form a spout, and what works best for pouring.  We’ll consider function and aesthetic choices when adding handles, different ways to make them, and how to best attach them.  We’ll also look at ways to embellish, decorate and glaze our newly created pitchers. 

 

Basic wheel throwing skill required. 

UNDERGLAZES ON BISQUEWARE WITH DETAIL WAX

Saturdays, 10am-12pm, June 14, 21, 28

Students will learn a technique to create designs on bisqueware using underglaze, glaze and detail wax.  Designs are first painted or drawn with underglaze, and covered with clear glaze.  After the clear glaze is dry, the designs are painted with detail was, and the whole piece is dipped in  colored glaze.  

All levels. 

HANDBUILT TEA SET 

with Lea Cook

Sundays, 10am-12pm, June 15, 22 and 29

In this workshop for students of all levels.  We will design and hand build teapots and teacups to make a full tea set. All tools needed will be provided. Come in with a form idea already brewing or still thinking about what you will make.

All levels. Limited experience with handbuilding is helpful.
