AN EVENING WITH MELISSA WEISS: CUP CARVING CLASS TO BENEFIT RAICES

In this class we will employ the "kurinuki" method to carve a cup out of a solid ball of clay. Materials will be provided. No prior clay experience necessary. Students will complete a cup from start to finish and pick it up at a later date glazed and fired. Your cup will be a one of a kind, fully functional piece.

Melissa Weiss is a full-time studio potter based in Asheville, NC. She has been working in clay for 15 years, making functional hand-built, carved and wheel-thrown pots. She has taught workshops in her studio, Penland School of Crafts and ceramic studios across the country. Melissa digs and processes wild clay from her land in the Arkansas Ozarks. She is the author of the ceramics how-to book, "Handbuilt, A Potter's Guide"
